The final Bee on the list – and what better way to celebrate than with a sculpture sponsored by The Manchester & District Beekeepers’ Association, and placed in Heaton Park inside the grounds of the Beekeeper’s Shop & Exhibition?
Sat on top of a giant sunflower, Flora is decorated with a collection of flowers, bees, and bee hives. At the base is a honeycomb pattern with a name in each hexagon. I’m assuming that these are the names of those donating to the bee, or members of the Association.
So far, one of my favourite Manchester bees, both to appreciate in terms of artistry, and to photograph. The waether was far from perfect, having had an unexpected shower just minutes before, which made the shooting a little more of a challenge.
Tips – At 600 acres, Heaton Park is huge! If you don’t relish the thought of walking the length of the park to see this bee, the nearest car parking (Pay & Display) is off St. Margarets Road. Alternatively, there is a land train that runs regularly through the park. Whilst at Heaton Park, don’t forget to visit Miss Bee-Ton and the mini bees at the Stables Cafe.
